RIMÊLAN – Assyrian women at the forefront of the Rojava women's revolution say that by working in the institutions of the revolution, they are working to build a free society for women and for their people.

The Assyrian and Syriac people are one of the many Middle Eastern peoples who have been denied their identity and massacred by ruling powers. With the Rojava revolution, Assyrian women say they are working to take part in all institutions to organize both as women and as Assyrians. Sûad Yeşûa is one of these women. She works in the city of Rimêlan, in Cizîrê Canton, in the city's Culture and Art Foundation.

"We are working to strengthen our institution. We are calling on all Assyrians to join our meetings," she said. The struggle, she said, was one for the new generation to finally live in a free society.

Nehrin Salîba, another woman working at the foundation, says that in Rojava, Assyrian women "are conscious of their responsibility." She said that they would continue to struggle to build a free, moral society.
