KOBANÊ – The Rojava women's movement has finished the first education program for women in Kobanê since the city's January liberation from Daesh.

The education program, designed to train 13 new activists with women's group Yekîtiya Star, ended yesterday after a 10-year intensive program focusing on natural society, ecology, culture, democratic autonomy and the thought of PKK leaders. The women named their first educational program after Ferinaz Xosrawanî, the Kurdish woman who lost her life escaping a rape attempt by Iranian security forces earlier this month. Xedice Isa, a student in the program, said she was struck by what she learned about Ferinaz Xosrawanî's act as a refusal to be condemned to a life of slavery.

"In order to develop our consciousness of freedom, our training and our actions need to be one," said Xedice, saying the education program was a valuable one. Sara Muhamed, another of the graduates of the program, described itas an opportunity to understand in detail the struggle of women and women's reality.
