WAN – In the second hearing of the case against the man who entered the Van province home of Büşra Çiftçi and killed her, prosecutors have apparently ignored important DNA evidence that could indicate multiple men's involvement in the killing.
On December 9, 2014, a man named Bayram Fırtına entered the home of 21-year-old Büşra Çiftçi in the town of Erciş, in Van province. In the second hearing of the case yesterday, it emerged that the prosecutor in the case has ignored DNA evidence pointed to multiple men's involvement in the killing, only including the testimony of secret witnesses in the case.
The DNA evidence shows DNA traces from two separate individuals on Büşra's possessions and a knife. While the prosecutor has ignored the evidence, lawyer Cihat Sargut has argued that the DNA of one individual is a match for that of Büşra's husband (Emre Kızılkaya). He has also requested that the DNA be compared with that of defendant Bayram Fırtına and his older brother.
The lawyer has claimed that it is highly unlikely that a single person planned and committed the murder and has requested that the court consider the involvement of other individuals (including the victim's husband and other men in question) in the case.
The next hearing of the case has been pushed back by a month so that the court can consider further evidence.
