Asisat Oshoala wins woman footballer of the year award

NEWS CENTER – Asisat Oshoala, 20, has been named the Women's Footballer of the Year by a popular vote hosted by the BBC.
Asisat, who has played for Liverpool since January 2015, brought Nigeria's women's under-20 football team to the 2014 Under-20s World Cup and was voted the tournament's MVP after scoring the most goals in the cup, sometimes scoring four goals per match.
"There is going to be a lot of motivation for women's football in Nigeria now because of this award because there are a lot of fans out there. Support for women's football in Nigeria is now growing very high," said Asisat, speaking with the BBC.
Asisat comes from a Muslim Nigerian family.Despite her high academic achievement, Asisat dropped out of school to become a football player. She has previously been named African Women's Footballer and African Women's Youth Player of the Year in 2014.
