Men killed 19 women in Turkey in July

NEWS CENTER - According to information gathered in the press, men killed 19 women in Turkey in the month of July.

In addition, 12 women and girls were raped; one was forced into sex work; 36 were injured due to male violence; and 10 were harassed. This includes only incidents that appeared in the press. So far, 160 women have been killed in Turkey in the first seven months of 2015. News website Bianet published a balance sheet of the violence against women.

19 women were killed by men in July. In addition, two more women were found dead under suspicious circumstances. Two women had deaths recorded as suicide; both were known to have been abused or raped. 47% of the women were killed by their husbands and 16% by their fathers. Their ages ranged from 14-67.

Meanwhile, 36 women were wounded by men's violence. More than half of the perpetrators were women's partners. 17 of the women were wounded to the point of being closed to death.
