AMED - In the largely Kurdish town of Silvan, women have taken to the streets to defend their neighborhood from police attacks ongoing for several days.
In the Silvan district of Diyarbakır province, women have formed a self-defense unit with the help of the defense forces of the YDG-K (Patriotic Revolutionary Young Woman). Women have dug trenches in a number of neighborhoods to control access to the neighborhoods.
Since Thursday night, there have been clashes in the town of Silvan, with police opening fire indiscriminately on the people. This was when Silvan women decided to join the self-defense efforts. Women have armed themselves with batons and are warding off police violence in the neighborhoods.
