ROJAVA - Assyrian women have begun self-defense training in order to protect their people from Daesh attacks.

In the Rojava autonomous region in Syria, local people have begun training to defend themselves against Daesh attacks. Recently, the Syrian Assyrian Women's Union (HNSS) started its first training camp. Women trained for seven days in political issues as well as weapons training.

Yoldaş Baha, among the Assyrian women who took part in the training camp, said that she had often thought about the need for defense.

"Then I understood: to strengthen ourselves, to protect our land and to liberate Mesopotamia so that all people can live in peace, we needed to arm ourselves," said Yoldaş. She noted that the training camp was different from life inside the home and that it was often difficult for her. But although the training camp has ended, Yoldaş and the other women are continuing their exercises every day.
