MUŞ - Yesterday, women activists from across Turkey headed to the town of Varto, where woman guerrilla Ekin Wan was killed, stripped naked and displayed on social media.
"Whenever we're in trouble, Ekin will keep on holding our hand," said Figen Yüksekdağ, co-chair of the left Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).
The Women's Freedom Assembly (KÖM) had issued a call for women to converge on the town of Varto, where on August 10, YJA STAR guerrilla Ekin Wan was killed in a clash. After her death, police stripped her, dragged her down the street and took photographs with her naked body. Women converged yesterday in Varto to honor Ekin.
"It wasn't enough for them to kill her; at the same time, they forced the most degraded form of war and destruction on her. Ekin Wan's naked, exposed body is an expression of how the political mechanisms of patriarchy see women," Figen said in her speech. "And that's why we know well that the dead body stripped there is our existence, our strength, our unity."
