ISTANBUL - One month ago, a bomb targeting youth socialist activists killed 33 in the town of Suruç, Turkey. Yesterday in Istanbul, activists held a commemoration of the Suruç massacre.

On July 20, the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations were holding a press conference to announce their plan to head to the city of Kobanê, in Rojava. A suicide bombing targeted the press conference. 33 lost their lives from the explosion.

The group Suruç Solidarity gathered at the municipal building in the Istanbul neighborhood of Kadıköy yesterday to remember the massacre one month later. Police refused the group permission to hold the event because "people would come and see." The group agreed to relocate to a nearby location.

Activist Murat Hakdağ, speaking at the event, said that the attack had not scared them, but had only built a "bridge of fraternity to Kobanê" and that activists would continue crossing that bridge. The group held a 33-minute sit-in to honor the 33 bombing victims.
