AMED - Turkish police raided neighborhood assemblies in the main Kurdish city of Diyarbakır yesterday in the wake of declarations of self-government.

Police raided the local assembly in the Lalebey neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Sur district, a neighborhood where locals have recently clashed with police. Police also staged a simultaneous raid on the Fatih neighborhood assembly in the Bağlar district, arresting one.

At the Lalebey assembly, police broke down the assembly down, seized all signs and posters and broke up the assembly. Assembly activists reported that police refused them access to the building and may have planted items inside.
