ISTANBUL - With 85,000 more young women left unemployed in Turkey over the last year, economists say unemployment will likely only continue rising in the country.

The Turkish Statistical Institute has released new data from May 2015 showing that women suffer from the highest rates of unemployment in Turkey. Unemployment among young women has reached 32%. This is compared with a general unemployment rate of 9.3%.

The Research Institute of the Turkey-wide union confederation DİSK reports that the new numbers mark a 40% rise in the number of unemployed people in Turkey compared to the same period in May 2012. 801,000 new people have become unemployed in Turkey over the last three years.

Researchers at the Economic and Social Research Center at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul predict that unemployment in permanent jobs (that is, excluding temporary seasonal agricultural work) will only continue to rise in Turkey.
