NEWS CENTER - In Diyarbakır, local people started walking out of work for five minutes every day to protest war. The action has now spread to other Kurdish cities in Turkey.
The Turkish state has launched a campaign of war in Northern Kurdistan. Recently, the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) called for people to bring everyday life to a stop for five minutes every day. The action began in Diyarbakır. It has now spread to the provinces of Van, Mardin and Şırnak.
"Every day at 3 p.m., for five minutes, drivers should stop their cars. Factory workers should stop the machines. Construction workers should stop building; shopkeepers, sales; civil servants, writing. Someone writing a letter at home should put down their pen," said Münir Aras, co-chair of the party in Van province. "Whatever work people are doing, they should stop. We ask our people to take at least five minutes to oppose the AKP's war and killing."
In the city of Nusaybin in Mardin province, municipal workers walked out of work. They marched across the city to the applause of those nearby. Residents of towns in Şırnak province are also participating in the action.
