ISTANBUL - Turkey's anti-femicide platform held a march through downtown Istanbul to call for a law against femicide and to denounce war in Turkey.
The platform We Will Stop Women Homicides has called for a law to increase punishments for killings of women in Turkey. The platform held a march to denounce the AKP's war policies and encouragement of femicide.
"My country is burning. Young people and women are dying," said Gülsüm Kav, a representative from the platform. She noted that women have suffered the most from the ruling AKP government's war.
The platform is calling for an anti-femicide law, named after femicide victim Özgecan Aslan. The Özgecan Law aims to discourage Turkish courts from giving sentence reductions to femicide perpetrators.
