AMED - Women in four parts of the largely Kurdish city of Diyarbakır took to the streets yesterday to denounce the attacks on the town of Silvan.
In Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey) yesterday, Turkish police shut down access to the town of Silvan for a second time. Police launched operations as Internet and road access was down. In the nearby provincial capital Diyarbakır, women held marches and actions against the assault in four neighborhoods throughout the day.
In the Sur district, women took over the "human shield" vigil that has been ongoing for four days. The vigil aims to stop police attacks. Dozens of women held an evening noise demo and marched to join the vigil.
Women in the Kayapınar district of the city attempted to hold a march in solidarity with Silvan, but police stopped them from taking the streets. Women marched through the sidewalks chanting for Silvan. In the Bağlar and Yenişehir districts, women also led marches in solidarity with Silvan.
