Peace march in Van

WAN - Thousands held an antiwar march in the largely Kurdish city of Van to protest the Turkish government's escalating attacks.

The political parties Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) called a march yesterday in the city of Van. "We won't let you make war," was the slogan of the march. Police virtually blockaded the city entirely for the march. The mass marched from two locations to the city center.

DBP provincial co-chair Hamiyet Şahin spoke at the gathering outside the municipal building.

"President Tayyip Erdoğan is trying to get what he couldn't get at the polls through chaos," said Hamiyet, referring to Turkey's President.
