Rojava prepares for a new school year

QAMIŞLO - The cantons of the Rojava autonomous region in Syria are finishing preparations to the new school year.
500,000 students and 1,000 schools will start the 2015-2016 school year across the Rojava autonomous region. Rojava's Education Council issued a call for aid and materials for the schools, many of which have been damaged by Daesh attacks throughout the year. The Council has been preparing materials, training teachers and repairing damaged buildings ahead of September 15, when classes begin.
Semîra Hecî Elî is the assistant chair of the Education Council. According to Semîra, 200,000 of the new students will be at the primary level. 300,000 will be at the middle and preparatory levels. The Council has decided to make enrollment mandatory across the cantons.
In Efrîn Canton, 1,350 teachers are ready for the new school year, which will start in the third week of August. Kurdish students will be educated in Kurdish from first to third grade, while Arab students will attend classes in Arabic. Efrîn teachers themselves designed the courses themselves.
Cizîrê Canton, where classes will start on September 15, all the preparations are in place for the new school year, according to officials.
