AMED - Local women's activists have decided to head for the besieged rural Kurdish town of Lice, Turkey to join an anti-war vigil there.
Turkish soldiers have declared a rural area near the largely Kurdish town of Lice to be a "military security zone." 10 days ago, local residents started a vigil in the area. They are hoping to be "human shields" whose presence will prevent clashes and war in their area.
The vigil is ongoing in the village of Hurê (Gömeç in Turkish). Women's organizations in the main Kurdish city of Diyarbakır have decided to add their bodies to the action. They will set out from the city on Monday to take over the watch at the "human shield" vigil.
