Assyrian women form first battalion in Rojava

TIRBESIYÊ - In Rojava, Assyrian women have organized to defend themselves against Daesh with the Bet Nahrin Women military battalion.
Assrian women have held a ceremony in the city of Tirbesiyê, in the Rojava autonomous region in Syria. The ceremony celebrated the founding of the first military battalion composed entirely of Assyrian women. The Bet Nahrin Women will fight as part of the Assyrian Military Council. Rojava officials, YPJ commanders and members of the Assyrian defense force Sutoro were in attendance.
"Rojava women have become an example to the world with their resistance at the front," said YPJ commander Zinarîn Kobanê (speaking in Kurdish) and Assyrian Military Council speaker Kîno Girayîl (speaking in Arabic) in a speech read in two languages. "This first step by Assyrian women is a historic one."
