AMED - Kurdish women activists have joined a civilian vigil to stop clashes in the war-torn area of Lice, Turkey.
For 15 days, Turkish forces have been continuing military activity near the town of Lice, in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey). Local residents started a vigil in the area, hoping to put themselves between the two opposing sides as "human shields" and stop clashes. The vigil in the village of Hurê (Gömeç in Turkish) is continuing to draw supporters.
Now, women activists from the nearby city of Diyarbakır have lent their support. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Parliamentary representatives and Congress of Free Women (KJA) activists are among the group who has joined the vigil. The women will hold the vigil for two days.
