ŞIRNEX - A crowd of thousands gathered in the town of Cizre, in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey), for the funeral of woman guerrilla Fatma Gasyak (nom de guerre Amara Jiyan).

Kurdish guerrilla Fatma Gasyak, born in 1995, died on August 29 in a clash in the Besta region of Kurdistan. Thousands gathered in her native town of Cizre yesterday for her funeral. Marchers carried Fatma's picture and that of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan at the funeral march.

"Before our children's dream is realized, as a people, we must not withdraw from the streets," said Asya Yüksel, co-chair of the Cizre Democratic People's Assembly, speaking at the funeral. The people promised to continue Fatma's dream, she said.
