SERÊKANIYÊ - After Rojava woman Bedriye Silêman lost two children in the resistance against Daesh attacks, she has taken up her children's struggle to defend the revolution.

40-year-old Bedriye Silêman is a resident of Rojava, the autonomous region in Syria. After Bedriye lost two of her five children in the ongoing resistance against Daesh attacks, she decided to change her path. Bedriye joined the self-defense patrols that locals have set up to defend their city, Serêkaniyê. Every evening, Bedriye spends four hours keeping watch with the members of the Rojava Youth Union.

"I've developed a strong friendship with the youth," said Bedriye. "We share the same spirit and the same goal. There's a need for these youths, because today the Rojava resistance is writing history."

Another of Bedriye's children is currently on the front fighting in the women's defense force, the YPJ.
