AMED – Last night, clashes broke out in the towns of Silvan and Dersim in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey) as the Turkish state continues its war in the area.
The town of Silvan is located in the largely Kurdish province of Diyarbakır, Turkey. Last night, police special operations teams attempted to enter the town’s neighborhood of Feridun. Locals resisted, with clashes intensifying throughout the night. The sound of gunshots and occasional explosions lasted throughout the night. Police threw tear gas into empty streets, trapping residents inside.
In the province of Dersim, Kurdish guerrillas attacked the regional military command station and police housing. After one police officer died in the attack, special operations teams launched an assault on a forested area near the Sihenk neighborhood, where clashes quickly broke out. Helicopters began bombing the forested area last night.
