ISTANBUL – Women artists and activists in Turkey will set out tonight for the Turkish capital of Ankara to demand peace in the country.
Over the last month, Turkish security forces have escalated a conflict in Northern Kurdistan. A group of women activists and artists in Istanbul have now announced a plan to travel to Turkey’s capital of Ankara to stop the war. The women will hold a peace vigil in Istanbul today, then set out for the capital.
The women will bring with them white muslin headscarves, a symbol of women’s struggle for peace, decorated with peace wishes from around the world.
