AMED – Turkish soldiers bombed an anti-war vigil in the Lice district of Diyarbakır province yesterday, leaving seven people wounded.

For nearly a month now, activists have been maintaining a vigil in the village of Hurê (Gömeç in Turkish) in the Lice district of Diyarbakır province. The “human shield” vigil is designed to prevent clashes between soldiers and guerrillas and to protest the military installations in the area.

Yesterday, Turkish soldiers opened fire on the activists with mortars, wounding seven. One of the demonstrators was seriously wounded. The wounded have been brought to the nearby city of Diyarbakır for treatment.
