ŞIRNEX – The Turkish state once again declared a curfew in the Kurdish town of Cizre last night, the day after a bloody nine-day siege of the city was lifted.

No sooner had the residents of theKurdish town of Cizre begun to bury some of the 21 civilians killed in a nine-day police blockade than the Turkish state once again declared a curfew, starting last night at 7:00 p.m. The curfew came into effect immediately after a crowd of thousands buried 16 of the victims of state violence in an emotional ceremony yesterday.

As the curfew came into effect, the people of Cizre returned to the trenches dug in the streets to maintain a vigil against police violence. In the Cudi neighborhood, residents male and female, young and old took to the barricades to stand watch against police violence. The residents chanted “long live the Cizre resistance” and “murderer Erdoğan” as explosions and gunshots rang out throughout the town.

The Turkish state lifted the curfew at 7:00 a.m. today. The sound of gunshots has continued in the town throughout the day.
