NEWS CENTER – The World March of Women, meeting in Quebec recently, has called for solidarity with refugees and all women struggling for freedom around the world.

The World March of Women is currently preparing for an international meeting of women in resistance in Mozambique in October 2016 with the slogan “Women on resistance, building a new world!” The group’s International Committee, meeting in Quebec City recently, sent a message of solidarity to refugees and struggling women around the world.

The World March of Women condemned the European Union’s response to the ongoing refugee crisis. “We speak out against the official response that EU is offering: a response based on militarism and on the closure of borders and quotas that is against the will of thousands of Europeans citizens… taking the streets to open their doors for people escaping from Palestine, Syria, Lybia, Iraq, Kurdistan, and other territories of the area,” said the group, which called for solidarity with refugees and action against racism around the world.

Recently, Sara Kaya—the co-mayor of the town of Nusaybin, where the World March of Women began its caravan on March 6, 2015—was jailed by the Turkish state for her defense of self-government in the Kurdish town.

“We condemn the war and oppression waged by the Turkish government against Kurdish communities and we continue to be in solidarity with Sara Kaya and every women that has been criminalized for their struggle for a better world,” wrote the group. “We stand up for those women who are criminalized in their struggle to claim autonomy over their bodies and territories.”
