BEHDINAN - Free Women’s Units’ (YJA STAR) commander Nujiyan Amed called attention to the importance of self-defense for Kurdish society and women.

She talked about self-defense’s importance for Kurdish people.

“Self-defense is essential for Kurdish people. We need to know the principles of self-defense. Kurdish people has been confronted with assaults for many years, and recently they have tried to destroy us with fascist assaults. Kurdish people need self-defense more than other peoples,” she said. “When we consider the reality of the Middle East and the world, Kurdish people cannot stay alive without self-defense. If we do not use self-defense against fascist assaults, we destroy ourselves. Kurdish people are always in struggle for self-defense. We were assaulted, but we never gave up the struggle.”

Nujiyan also called attention to women’s role in self-defense.

“Women cannot stay alive without self-defense in a patriarchal power system. We will protect powerfully our leader’s labor. We will struggle till we build free society. Women need to defend themselves in every way. We cannot get a future without struggling. Women should improve self-defense. When they make it best, they will make their people free,” she said. “We are powerful as women. We should put together our power. One of the most important forms of our self-defense is our patriotism. We should depend on our language, culture and geography. These are the most effective weapons of self-defense for women. When they do this, they defend their core.”

Nujiyan said that defense of women is YJA Star’s duty.

“We should not forget that women are the dynamics of the power of self-defense. When Kurdish women organize, they have the power and potential to overcome their enemies,” Nujiyan said.
