AMED – Five children were wounded as Turkish police attempted to enter the Sur district of the largely Kurdish city of Diyarbakır.
Five children were wounded as Turkish police assaulted several parts of the Sur district of the largely Kurdish city of Diyarbakır.
Yesterday, Turkish police assaulted the Sur district neighborhoods of Fatip and Hasırlı. Police attempted once again to enter the Fatih neighborhood this morning, positioning snipers on rooftops. Locals started a noise demonstration to protest the police attack, with residents banging on their shutters, doors and pots and pans in protest.
As police attacked the Hançepek neighborhood, five children were wounded. The chidren ranged in age between eight and 15. 8-year-old Ali Kaya remains in serious condition. Eyewitnesses report that unknown persons opened fire on the children from a black vehicle that entered the neighborhood.
