WAN - Women harvested the last produce this season that was planted by project of the Dara Jiyanȇ near the Kurdish town of Edremit.

The Women Policies Office in the Kurdish town of Edremit in Van developed a project called “Dara Jiyanȇ”. Women farmers planted fruits and vegetables in an area which is 9 thousand square meters in the Elmalık neighborhood; they harvested the last produce of the season. Women harvested the produce, which is irrigated by drip irrigation and used organic seed.

Agricultural engineer Saime Demiroğlu informed us about the project. She said that the planted area is very productive, and they are so pleased that the women come together again with the land.

“We will create a production area that includes fruit trees in almost 2.5 acres in total. We haven’t decided yet what we will produce. Our land is very productive. Next year, we will plant the land again; we will assign it to the women,” she said.

The women, who harvested the last produce, will work on the land for the following planting as well.
