ŞIRNEX – This morning, Turkish police blockaded a neighborhood in the largely Kurdish town of Şırnak, where several have been wounded as police open fire at random with live ammunition.
Early this morning, dozens of armored vehicles rolled into the Yeşilyurt neighborhood in the town of Şırnak, capital of Turkey’s Şırnak province. Police special operations teams began a total assault on the residents, opening fire with live ammunition and tear gas. Police launched explosives at a trench that locals had dug at the entrance to the neighborhood to defend from frequent police attacks.
Police are making announcements calling for residents to leave the neighborhood as Şırnak residents chant slogans and ululate to protest the attack.
Locals have evacuated three individuals injured in the attack and brought them to the town’s state hospital. The police attack is ongoing.
