NEWS CENTER - International Federation of Journalists(IFJ)Social Gender Council draws attention to violence against women journalists by statement regarding November 25.
IFJ Social Gender Council made a statement on the occasion of November 25, Day Against Violence Against Women. In the statement, The Council is drawing attention to the growing threat and cyber-bullying against women. They said, "The reason of pointing the women as a target is moslty because they are women in this field. Being talked about women journalists, the research shows that violence turns into sexual violence and sometimes this violence goes towards their family too."
According to the study which made by England Journalists Union and Strathclyde, there are sectarian, racist, sexist and homophobic harassment against the journalists. The irony is that harassment is being used to suppress freedom of expression, causing the increase in self-censorship.
