AMED - Women plead the self-defense against the State attacks in Sur. The women are inspired from the YPJ(The Women's Protection Units) and they form a new organisation named the YPJ-S.

We went into the six neighborhood in Sur and talked to people there just before the sixth curfew was declared.

Women have being organized communal in purple areas

The women(young and old) have pioneered fort he resistance. They named their position as 'purple position'. They also used the purple tarpaulins to protect themselves from the snipers.The women use the banners of the YPJ and the KJK.

The communal life

Almost all the houses doors were opened in the neighborhood and the communal governance is dominated in the neighborhoods. They cook the tea and foods commonly. Everything in life is co-produces and common consumption behind of the purple tarpaulins.

The YPJ-S already declared its establishment

We asked them if they are inspired from the YPJ in Kobanê. The women said, " We are inspired from the YPJ when we created women's self-defense in Sur."
The YPJ-S declared its establishment a few days ago and It will be the name of the common struggle for women agaisnt the bans,curfews and blockade. We wanted to take some photos of the area but they told us " Don't take the photos of the area. There is a resistance here. Don't divulge our emplacements."
