She fixes the fabric and her life by tailoring

DİLOK - Aysel Sungur was born in Cizre,moved to Antep with her family just after the arrest of her father because of political reasons 25 years ago. She has been far away from her village for 25 years. She has fixed all fragmentation in her life by tailoring for 15 years.

Aysel Sunger was born in Cizre district of Şırnak. Her life is a story of the State’s policy of repression over the Kurds for years.She had to immigrate from Cizre to Mersin with her family and then to Antep after the arrest of her father 25 years ago. She told us how she holds in life despite all the pressure. Aysel said, “ We had to immigrate after my father arrested because of political reasons.We are 8 brothers and sisters, two of us are married. My father was released after two years we moved.We are far away from our village for 25 years or maybe more.

‘When my father got sick,I decided to tailor’

Aysel started her working life about 15 years ago. She is working in a tailor shop in Düztepe locality of Şahinbey district of Antep. Aysel said, “ When my father got sick, one of us had to work. Then I decided to tailor. My other brothers and sisters went to school. So I shoulder the burden. In the beginning, I thought I had to look after my family but now I understand how important a woman stay on her own legs.

I stitch the clothes on order in workshop, said Aysel and added “ I have done this job for 15 years. It’s an exhausting work but I have to put up with it in order to stand on my own legs.
