AMED - KJA women's rights organization member Zeynep Altınkaynak was detained in the raid on the DBP (Democratic Regions Party) provincial building in Diyarbakır today, along with university student Mehmet Şakir Karataş.
Two people have been detained in today's police raid on the Diyarbakır provincial building of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP). Police detained Zeynep Altınkaynak, a member of the women's group KJA(Congress of Free Women), and university student Mehmet Şakir Karataş, claiming that there was a warrant for them for not appearing for testimony. The two were detained and taken to the anti-terror branch of the Diyarbakır police department.
DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek and Parliamentary representatives from the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) gave a statement outside the building after police ran identity checks on everyone inside and left the scene. A crowd who had heard of the raid came to the building, chanting "repression can't stop us."
"Our party building was illegally raided. There were also simultaneous raids on our party buildings in many provinces," Kamuran Yüksek announced in the statement. Kamuran said that the international public and the public in Turkey needed to know that law and democracy no longer remain in Turkey.
