Health workers' vigil on 14th day

AMED - The health workers have been on vigil for 14 days to give the people health service in Sur where matial law has been imposed for 36 days. Selma Atabay, the co-chair of SES Diyarbakır Branch said they have continued the vigil despite all pressure on them.

The siege has been continued for 36 days in Sur district of Diyarbakır.The health workers who are members of SES and TTB started a vigil with slogans 'Life against death', 'White against black' because of curfew and prevent the citizens' health rights in Kurdistan. Holding the vigil in front of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, the health workers said " They will continue the vigil till the siege is ended."

Pointing out the attacks on health workers, There are attacks on health workers in the conflicts areas. Yes, there is a war atmosphere, the health workers have to treat all people without looking their religions,languages,cultures and idendities, said Selma Atabay, the co-chair of SES Diyarbakır Branch and she said, "Security forces have opened fire on the people in the curfews districts. There are attacks on the health workers who try to take the people to hospital and the health workers have been killed by security forces.State forces,police and soldiers are killing the people, we can not keep silent against these attacks."

We can not give the health services to the people in Sur. There are many wounded and sick people in Sur and we are not able to go inside to give them the health service because the Diyarbakır Governorship does not allow us to go inside. We will continue on our vigil until the siege is ended."said Selma.
