Prosecutor calls for arrest of 23 women in İzmir

İZMİR – With six of the 29 women detained in İzmir after a memorial released, 23 women have now been sent to court with a call for their arrest.
Members of the women’s organization KJA (Congress of Free Women) in the city of İzmir, Turkey called a memorial on Saturday to honor six Kurdish women politicians who have been assassinated—in Paris in 2013 and in the town of Silopi one week ago. Police attacked the women, detaining 29.
Six of the women were released over the weekend, while 23 have been sent to court with a request that they be jailed. Among the women sent to court today is Dilek Aykan, the provincial co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).
