ŞIRNEX – Healthcare worker Aziz Yural was recently slain by state forces in the town of Cizre while trying to aid a wounded woman. Hundreds attended a funeral to bid farewell to Aziz yesterday in Cizre.

Dozens of civilians have been killed so far as Turkish state forces maintain a 24-hour curfew in the town of Cizre, denying hospital and ambulance access and attacking those who attempt to aid the wounded.

On December 30, Aziz Yural, a healthcare worker and director of the local branch of healthcare workers’ union SES, was shot by state forces as he attempted to save an injured woman. He lost his life in hospital in Batman.

Aziz’s body had been transported to the morgue of the Şırnak State Hospital. Howeever, after state forces repeatedly abducted the bodies being kept in Şırnak State Hospital, Aziz’s family and local politicians arranged three days ago for Aziz’s body to be moved into the municipal government’s cold storage unit.

Yesterday, Aziz’s family brought his body to the Dicle neighborhood, their former home. Hundreds marched, chanting slogans such as “martyrs never die,” to Aziz’ burial place.

After the funeral, the crowd defied the curfew by marching through the streets chanting slogans.
