At least 10 dead, 15 wounded in Sultanahmet explosion

ISTANBUL – After an explosion in Istanbul’s historic tourist district of Sultanahmet, early reports point to at least 10 dead and many wounded.
At 10:20 a.m., a bomb exploded in the historic Sultanahmet Square, among Istanbul’s top tourist attractions. As investigators arrive at the scene, they have said the signs point to a suicide bomber. The explosion occurred near the Obelisk of Theodosius, facing the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Ambulances and firefighters rushed to the area.
Debris from the explosion landed in the museum’s entryway and garden. The museum has been closed to visitors, with visitors inside evacuated by staff through the rear door.
