İSTANBUL- Stressing that the Kurdish problem cannot be solved by usurping Kurds’ right to self-government, the academic Yıldız Önen said, “The reason for massacres of civilians is not the digging of trenches. On the contrary, the reason is that the state never understands what the Kurds want from them.”

In Istanbul, academics gathered with the slogan ‘‘we will not be party to this crime,” stating that the right to life has been usurped by the curfews. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been targeting the academics in his statements.

“We can see an ongoing disinformation and accumulating non-recognition of the massacre in the east, because we have been split in half between east and west,” one of the Academics for Peace, Nil Mutluer, said. She emphasized the death should be ended and the state should restart peace negotiations.

“We are not in the area, but we are saddened by the abduction of the murdered people's bodies. All society is traumatized by these massacres. Dead bodies are being abducted consciously. This situation should be ended. The state cannot take the dead bodies and bury them in potter's field. That’s a brutal method,” said Nil.

“These people have experienced a terrible savagery. We want this savagery be known by everyone,” said another academic, Yıldız Önen. “We do not want to be party to this crime. The people in the west shouldn’t keep silent to these massacres and they should not be party to the state’s savagery.

“The reason for massacres of civilians is not the digging of trenches. On the contrary, the reason is that the state never understands what the Kurds want from them,” said Yıldız. “If they rely on usurping their self-government rights, these conflicts will continue.”
