ŞIRNEX – As the Botan region of Kurdistan continues its resistance against attacks by the Turkish state, the resistance is not just made up of those in the trenches. It’s also made up of the women struggling and organizing in every street. “We will continue our struggle until our last drop of blood,” said the women of the town of Şırnak, in the Botan region.
In the wake of the declaration of self-government in towns across the region, the Turkish state has once again brought destructive martial law into play in the Botan region, known for its long history of resistance. Women in the town of Şırnak have said that they will continue their struggle for liberation no matter the conditions, and made it clear that they stand behind their children fighting in the trenches dug in streets across the region.
Woman Hezni İrmez said that every day, the bodies of those slaughtered in the state attacks are brought to Şırnak, where the province’s main hospital and morgue are located.
“They don’t even permit the families of our martyrs to bury the dead,” said Hezni. “Are we going to ask for peace like this? We can’t even bury our dead anymore.” She called on governments everywhere to stand up against what was happening.
Fatma Kartal said, “We won’t stay silent against this cruelty any longer. We will struggle with all our strength. We are behind our children in the trenches until the end.”
Şırnak woman Sıkıka Permanbeg began her comments with a curse against Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Sıkıka noted that the state has killed elderly people, children and even a baby in its mother’s womb, which died when she was shot in the stomach. “We don’t have any demands from the Turkish state. Just let them get their dirty politics out of our land; that’s enough,” said Sıkıka.
“Tayyip Erdoğan, may God not bless you,” said Hanife Günden. “You’re killing your own citizens. How will you account for these massacres on judgment day?
“Why are the states of Europe staying silent about this?” asked Hanife. “I am calling on all the European states: stop these massacres; stop this dictator.”
