ŞIRNEX – As the 24-hour curfews in Cizre and Silopi enter their 33rd day today, 84 have been slain in the state’s attacks since the curfew began.

The state of Turkey began an all-out assault on the towns of Cizre and Silopi after local residents declared local self-government. Electricity, water and access to medical care are cut off in the towns, where tank and artillery bombardments have destroyed houses as snipers shoot citizens in the streets. The curfews in Cizre and Silopi have been imposed continuously for the last 33 days.

The town of Cizre has lost 58 citizens in the ongoing curfew. Among them were three-year-old baby Miray İnce and three unborn children who died in their mothers’ wombs. In the town of Silopi, the 26 lost in the massacre include 11-year-old boy Mehmet Mete; 70-year-old Ömer Maslu, killed while performing prayers in his home; and the three Kurdish women politicians Sêvê Demir, Pakize Nayir and Fatma Uyar.
