ŞIRNEX – With state forces’ attacks on the town of Cizre escalating since yesterday night, another citizen has been killed in the town of Cizre.

The town of Cizre is now in its 36th day of violent attacks by state forces, with another resident killed overnight.

Late last night, attacks began to escalate in the Sur and Cudi neighborhoods. Tanks and armored vehicles have been positioned on the Cahferi Sadık Hill, overlooking both neighborhoods, and are raining explosives on the two neighborhoods.

Many houses have been demolished and some have gone up in flames as tank fire and explosives strike the neighborhood. A dark cloud hangs over the town, as the houses burn unchecked.

Mortar fire launched by state forces from nearby villages also continues to destroy buildings across the town. Yesterday, three individuals (one a child) were wounded when a mortar struck their home. In addition, a 10-year-old child named Hayrettin Sınık, wounded in the attacks, died on the way to hospital.

An individual named Mehmet Rıdvan Kaymaz, shot in the head last night in the Sur neighborhood, has also died. Because of the attacks, Mehmet Rıdvan’s body has not been retrieved from the neighborhood.

Police have forcibly closed two markets and one bakery in the district, among the only places for residents to get food. After residents reacted, police decided to allow one market to open between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. every day.

The Cizre municipality has organized food relief trucks to enter the town, but state forces have not permitted the trucks to enter. The majority of the town’s bakeries have now run out of stocks of flour and fuel.
