NEWS CENTER – The World March of Women has called for women across the world to converge on Turkish embassies tomorrow in protest, in a day of action for Kurdish people under siege.

The international women’s organization the World March of Women has issued a call to action in solidarity with Kurdish women and the Kurdish people under assault in Turkey. For nearly half a year, the Turkish state has been assaulting Kurdish areas that declared self-government over the summer, leading to the deaths of hundreds of civilians.

“Curfews have been declared in the towns declaring self-governance, where electricity, water, communication are cut. Whoever goes outside—whether it’s a child, an elderly, a pregnant woman or a sick person—is killed by snipers. As people are injured, they cannot seek medical assistance. People cannot bury their dead,” said the statement, which noted that spontaneous miscarraiges had also increased in the towns under siege. Most recently, Turkish security forces assassinated three Kurdish women activists—Sêvê Demir, Fatma Uyar and Pakize Nayir—in the town of Silopi.

“We denounce this political murder and call on National Coordinating Bodies to organise protests in front of Turkish Embassies or send letters on January 21, 2016 to condemn the killing of three Kurdish women activists,” said the statement, which also called for the curfew to be lifted and the peace process to be restarted.

The World March of Women had kicked off its 4th International Action in March 2015 in the town of Nusaybin—now, like many other Kurdish towns and cities, under a state of blockade by Turkish state forces.

‘Women are taking an active role in constructing a new society shared their inspiring experiences, from self-defense to local communes,” said the statement, commented on the events at the Rojava-Northern Kurdistan border in Nusaybin.

Sêvê Demir, one of the three women killed in Silopi, had coordinated the kickoff events.
