ISTANBUL – In Istanbul, where organizers have twice tried to hold screenings of a documentary on PKK co-founder Sakine Cansız, police have once again prevented the screening.

Sakine Cansız was one of the co-founders of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party). She was assassinated, along with fellow Kurdish women activists Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez, in Paris on January 9, 2013. The documentary “Sara” chronicles Sakine’s life.

Recently, organizers attempted to hold an Istanbul screening of the film. However, on the day of the screening, police told them they “could not guarantee their safety.”

The screening had been rescheduled for this evening. Today, police have once again claimed that it was “unsafe” to hold tonight’s screening at Istanbul’s Su Cinema.

The showing has been rescheduled for this evening at the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) district building in the Bağlar area.
