ŞIRNEX – Five women have gone missing in the town of Cizre after attempting to retrieve a woman wounded by state security forces in the besieged town.

A state of 24-hour martial law is in its 38th day in the town of Cizre. Turkish state security forces have fired on a group of civilians with live ammunition on Caferi Sadık Avenue. Among the wounded is Asya Yüksel, the co-chair of the Cizre Popular Assembly.

Asya and other women had set out to retrieve Helin Öncü. Helin was shot and wounded today by Turkish security forces. Security forces continued opening fire and prevented citizens from taking her to the hospital. The European Court of Human Rights issued an injunction calling for Helin’s right to medical care.

According to Mehmet Tunç, co-chair of the Cizre Popular Assembly, Turkish forces opened fire on his co-chair Asya as well as four other women as they were attempting to retrieve Helin. Mehmet reported that the group had received permission from the district governor to evacuate Helin.

“The women couldn’t stand hearing Helin’s screams and went to get her, but they opened fire on them,” said Mehmet.

The women’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
