ŞIRNEX – After Turkish state forces opened fire on Gule Ürün’s son and another young man in the town of Cizre, Gule has successfully evacuated the two youth.

Turkish state forces’ genocidal attacks on the town of Cizre continue in their 43rd day today. Yesterday, a young man named Ömer Ürün and his friend Kasım (last name unknown) set out from the Dağkapı neighborhood of Cizre to the Cudi neighborhood, where they had left their identity cards. As the two friends reached Nusaybin Avenue, Turkish state forces opened fire on them.

The two young men fled into a nearby backstreet to escape the gunfire. Upon learning of the incident, Gule Ürün, mother of Ömer Ürün, set out alone on a march under a white flag to the site of the attack. As the police continued to fire, Gule entered the nearby police station and told the police to hold their fire.

“Either you hold your fire and I get my son, or you kill me too,” said Gule.

As Gule continued to insist on rescuing her son today, police took her to the house where the two friends were pinned down by the police attacks. Police arrested the two young men.

Gule stated that the house was totally destroyed, and it was a matter of chance that her son and his friend survived state forces’ heavy gunfire.
