ŞIRNEX – In the town of Cizre, four have succumbed to their wounds so far in an apartment building that Turkish state forces have heavily bombarded despite being informed of the presence of wounded civilians inside. The building has begun to collapse on the 24 wounded people trapped in the basement.
Four days ago, a group of residents wounded in tank artillery bombardments in the town of Cizre fled into the basement of a house. As residents attempted to get an ambulance to the wounded and informed state authorities of the location of the wounded, state forces intensified the attack. Four have died of blood loss so far in the basement, where medical supplies and water have been exhausted.
The heavy bombardment has resumed as of this afternoon. Faysal Sarıyıldız, one of the province’s MPs, reported from the basement that wounded woman Sultan Irmak is on the point of death.
Earlier today, the families of the wounded requested permission from the police to evacuate the wounded, saying they wanted permission to travel to the building on foot. MP Faysal Sarıyıldız also spoke with the provincial governor, proposing that the state hold its fire for long enough for ambulances to reach the building. The governor rejected the proposal.
The second and third stories of the building collapsed in yesterday evening’s attacks, burying the basement’s windows in debris, according to Cizre People’s Assembly co-chair Mehmet Tunç.
Four dead bodies and 24 wounded Cizre residents remain trapped in the building, where the roof has begun to collapse on the wounded.
