MÊRDÎN – As a group attempts to march to the besieged town of Cizre to protest the blockade, soldiers have launched a second attack on the group. Three are wounded so far.
Turkish state forces continue martial law and assaults on civilians in the town of Cizre. As a group set out from Mardin province in protest of the attacks, state forces attacked early today. The group refused to withdraw, and resisted the police.
As the popular resistance spread out into the surrounding fields, police and soldiers withdrew. The marchers set up barricades to defend against the attacks, as MPs from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) attempted to negotiate with soldiers for the armored vehicle blockade around the marchers to be withdrawn.
JINHA reporter Zehra Doğan and other journalists were forced to withdraw from the area due to heavy tear gas when soldiers attacked their car. Soldiers destroyed two of the journalists’ computers with the butts of their guns, seized two wireless modems and ruined the vehicle.
Three residents were struck by gas canisters and wounded. One of the three, Aslan Ali Çınar, began to experience a heart attack when a gas canister struck him in the chest. The wounded have been evacuated to the hospital.
Recently, the police and soldiers began a second major attack on the resisting marchers. The attack is ongoing.
