AMED – A group of mothers of those killed in the Gezi resistance, the Suruç bombings and in forced disappearances across Turkey have arrived in Kurdistan with the goal of joining a march to break the siege on the town of Cizre.
With a group of wounded Cizre residents still trapped in a basement while Turkish state forces bombard the house they have taken refuge in, a group of mother-activists have come to Kurdistan with the goal of joining the popular effort to break the blockade on the besieged town. The women held a press conference in Diyarbakır today to announce their action.
“These things happened because we were scared, but we won’t be scared anymore,” said Sayfi Sarısülük, the mother of a young man killed by police in the Gezi resistance. “No more, enough already. I can’t tolerate injustice; I’ve come here from Ankara so that no more children will be lost.
“I’m not going to leave this place until we chase [Turkish President] Tayyip out. If he’s a man, I’m a woman; a woman!” said Sayfi. She said the real “terror” was the president himself.
Hanife Yılmaz, a member of the Saturday Mothers who demand to know the fate of their children lost in forced disappearance, said that they were full of pain and rage.
“But our rage is greater than our pain,” said Hanife.
The women have set out along with members of the Peace Mothers for the province of Nusaybin, where they will join a march that aims to break the siege on the city of Cizre.
