According to the report of We Will Stop Women Murders' platform, 36 women were killed in the first month of 2016. In the first month of 2016, more women were killed compared with recent years. The report also analysed the reasons of the increase in the number of women murders. Report reads; "The murderers are the women's fathers, husbands, ex-husbands or boyfriends. 24 of the 36 women had children. 15 of them were married. 14 of them were married and had children. Most of women were killed by their husbands, boyfriends and sons. 20 of them aged between 16-36. The 50% of women murders were committed by firearms.

"Religious fatwas have increased the women's murder and sexual assault. Recently, a ruling appeared on the website of Turkey's Directorate of Religious Affairs. After a commenter asked for a fatwa on the question, "Does the lust that a father feels for his own daughter break his engagement with his wife?" the answer was listed as, "It does not generate this kind of unlawfulness for a father to feel lust for his own daughter by touching her through thick clothes or looking at her body." Turkey's Directorate of Religious Affairs(Diyanet) had to remove the fatwa on its website. However, they haven't made an excuse yet.
